Attack on Azad Jammu and Kashmir Speaker’s Convoy Leaves Two Injured

At least two individuals were injured when the convoy of Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, passed near Muzaffarabad.

The attack occurred while Speaker Akbar was heading to Kakliyot, his constituency, for a ceremony welcoming notable political activists into the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Thankfully, Akbar was unharmed, though two PPP workers were injured in the shooting.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the shooting incident targeting. In a statement, President Zardari condemned the attack as cowardly and despicable. He expressed his hopes for the swift recovery of the injured individuals.

Similarly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the assault, labelling it a cowardly act, and offered his prayers for the injured. He directed relevant authorities to arrest those responsible for the attack immediately.

Chairman of PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also condemned the attack. He expressed relief that Speaker Akbar was unharmed and prayed for the quick recovery of the two injured PPP workers. Bilawal demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers and called for swift justice.
