Athara Hazari dyke broken to save Trimu headworks

Floodwater entered Athara Hazari town after the protective dyke on the right bank of Chenab at Trimu was breached to save the crucial headworks.

According to officials, floodwater posing serious threat to Trimu headworks, which might be swept away by the raging floodwater. The authorities had already prepared to break Athara Hazari dyke if necessary to reduce water pressure at the headworks.

According to reports after the breach, floodwater has entered main Athara Hazari town.

Trimu headworks, which have a design capacity of 645,000 cusecs will likely to receive 600,000 cusecs of water today.

The water body will face real threat after 48 hours when the water level will be feared to rise between 700,000 and 800,000 cusecs.

The districts of Multan, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh could be directly hit by the flood. Therefore such precautionary measures were deemed necessary.
