The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad denied bail to PTI lawyer Fathullah Barki on Monday in a case involving the assault on Khawar Maneka, the former husband of Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi.
During the same proceedings, presided over by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, bail was granted to other PTI lawyers who had applied for pre-arrest bail.
Advocates State Hussain Azad, Sardar Higzi, and others represented the petitioners in court. The accused, including Usman Riaz Gul and others, attended the hearing.
The PTI lawyers seeking bail were Usman Riaz Gul, Fathullah Barki, and Zahid Bashir Dar. The defendants were also Mirza Asim Baig, Ansar Mehmood Kayani, and Saeed Khan Saduzai.
An FIR was filed on May 30 at the Ramna Police Station against several PTI lawyers, including Naeem Haider Panjutha and Ali Ijaz Buttar, following the assault on Maneka.
The incident occurred outside the Islamabad district and sessions court after a reserved verdict was delayed in a case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife. Maneka’s critical comments about Khan sparked a confrontation, leading PTI lawyers to attack him physically outside the courtroom.
PTI has denounced the case as “false, fabricated, and baseless,” rejecting the charges against its legal team members, including Panjutha, Buttar, Usman Riaz Gill, and Mirza Asim Baig.
