Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi acquitted Lyari gang warfare chief Uzair Baloch in two additional instances due to “lack of proof.”
Uzair Baloch, the leader of the outlawed Peoples Aman Committee (PAC), was cleared on the counts of intending to commit murder and planting explosives, according to the facts.
During today’s session, Abid Zaman, Baloch’s attorney, stated that the claims made against his client were based on “falsehoods.” He mentioned that the cases were registered at the Kharadar and Napier police stations.
“There was no proof to substantiate the accusations against his client,” the attorney stated, adding that the prosecution had no eyewitnesses in court to testify or identify the defendant. Consequently, he urged the court to acquit Baloch for lack of evidence.
After hearing the arguments, the ATC determined that there was insufficient evidence linking Baloch to the crimes and acquitted him in two additional cases. The court has also acquitted Shahid, commonly known as MC, his co-accused.
Uzair Baloch was detained earlier in November in another case of possessing explosives, a police encounter, and attempted murder.
The case was reported to the Kalakot police station in 2012. In 2015, the sole defendant arrested in the case, Ghaffar alias Mama, was acquitted.
Uzair Baloch and the other defendants in the case were proclaimed absconders, and the case file was closed. However, during today’s anti-terrorism court hearing, copies of the case were delivered to the attorneys.
It is crucial to note that Baloch has been acquitted in 35 cases filed against him at different police stations in the city.
Uszair is the protagonist of the gang war in Lyari and other areas of Karachi in the preceding decade. In 35 of the approximately 70 cases in which he was charged with a crime, he was acquitted, primarily because the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence against him.
