Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Afghanistan peace stance was reiterated on Wednesday as Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir said peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan could only prevail if the Afghan Taliban regime renounced support for terrorism and terrorist organisations, according to ISPR.
The military’s media wing said the COAS made the remarks during a visit to Wana in South Waziristan, where he reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness along the Western border.
ISPR said Field Marshal Munir received a comprehensive briefing on the security environment, ongoing intelligence-based operations, and border management measures in place.
The briefing also covered Operation Ghazab lil-Haq and developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the statement added.
During interactions with officers and troops deployed in forward areas, the COAS commended their professionalism, vigilance, and morale amid ongoing skirmishes. He praised their commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Warning on Use of Afghan Soil
According to ISPR, Field Marshal Munir emphasised that the use of Afghan soil by “Fitna al-Khawarij” and “Fitna al-Hindustan” for acts of terrorism against Pakistan was unacceptable.
He said all necessary measures would be taken to neutralise threats emanating from across the border, the statement added.
ISPR also said the COAS expressed confidence in the combat readiness, coordination, and resilience of formations deployed along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
ISPR said Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument to pay homage to martyrs who made sacrifices in defence of the country.
He offered Fateha and reaffirmed that the sacrifices of Shuhada remain central to Pakistan’s security and resilience, the statement added. Upon arrival in the area, the COAS was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar.
