Arvind Kejriwal was acquitted in a corruption case after a Delhi court cleared the former chief minister and 22 others in a long-running probe linked to liquor license allocations.
The Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had been arrested in March 2024. Investigators alleged that his administration received kickbacks from the allocation of liquor licenses. Kejriwal consistently denied the accusations and described the case as a political conspiracy.
On Friday, the court dismissed all charges against Kejriwal, his former deputy Manish Sisodia, and 21 others.

Arvind Kejriwal Acquitted in Corruption Case by Delhi Court
Kejriwal, 57, spent several months in jail during the investigation. He wept as he left the court and told reporters, “Truth has won.” He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of targeting his party.
The verdict closes a major chapter in Indian politics. Kejriwal had served as Delhi’s chief minister before losing the 2025 elections amid ongoing judicial proceedings.

Kejriwal began his career as a tax officer before emerging as an anti-corruption activist. Over the years, he became one of Modi’s most prominent political opponents.
In recent years, several opposition leaders in India have faced investigations or trials. In August 2025, the government introduced a bill proposing the removal of politicians if they are arrested and detained for 30 days. Critics described the measure as a threat to constitutional safeguards.
