Bloomberg reports that Apple is set to launch its fourth-generation AirPods in two variants this September. The company plans to phase out the second-generation AirPods, introducing a new entry-level model and replacing the third-generation AirPods launched in 2021.
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman mentions that the upcoming fourth-generation AirPods will maintain the design of their predecessors. However, the key difference between the two new models will be the inclusion of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC); the entry-level variant will not feature ANC, while the mid-tier model will.
Apple intends to continue offering the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) as its premium tier product, equipped with the H2 chip. This chip supports Adaptive Audio, enhanced ANC, and a Transparency mode.
The pricing strategy includes lowering the cost of the third-generation AirPods, currently priced at Rs. 20,900 in India, upon the release of the new models.
Furthermore, Apple expects to equip both new AirPods (4th Generation) models with a modern USB Type-C port to comply with regulatory standards in various regions, including the European Union. It is still uncertain whether these new models will feature MagSafe charging.
Additionally, rumors suggest Apple plans to update the AirPods Max with a USB Type-C port and capabilities for wired audio playback, which would allow for lossless audio playback on Apple Music. Details about the release timeline for these updates are still unclear.
