Apple recently introduced a real-time Live Activities feature in its Apple News app, offering up-to-the-minute US election results directly on iPhone home and lock screens. This feature allows users to skip traditional broadcast methods for a more direct and streamlined update experience, bringing election data to their devices.
When opening Apple News today, users are notified to “follow the election live” as results pour in on Tuesday night. For users outside the United States or those who don’t see the notification, there is an option to tap the “Follow the election live” banner on the app’s homepage.
This Live Activity activates as polls close and votes are counted, offering instant updates directly on the home and lock screens. Users do not need to reopen the app or refresh manually, as the widget automatically updates with each new electoral vote tally.
Positioned discreetly at the bottom of the lock screen or within the Dynamic Island on the home screen, it provides a succinct, integrated view of information, enhancing phone functionality without overwhelming notifications.
