Apple’s iOS 18 update, unveiled at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, features an overhaul of the iPhone’s Control Centre among other enhancements. A notable change is adding a direct shutdown option, streamlining the process of turning off the iPhone.
The updated Control Centre, now available in the iOS 18 Developer Beta 1, includes a new power-off shortcut. This button allows users to shut down their devices quickly without the previous requirement of simultaneously pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power buttons followed by swiping a slider.
Located in the top-right corner of the Control Centre, which is accessed by swiping down, the new power button reveals the traditional power-off slider upon tapping. This feature, confirmed by Gadgets 360 staff, simplifies iPhone shutdown.
Additionally, iOS 18 introduces an extended power reserve. Despite not being highlighted in the WWDC keynote, this feature reportedly enables the iPhone to display the time and maintain the “iPhone is Findable” status longer post-battery depletion, as users on the iOSBeta subreddit discussed. This enhancement suggests that the Find My service may remain active for an extended period even when the iPhone is powered down.
