On Sunday, Senator Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, the newly nominated interim prime minister, revealed that he’d resign from his Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) membership and Senate seat. He announced this decision on Twitter and sought the public’s prayers and support during the transition.
Kakar, previously associated with both BAP and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), was nominated for the interim role by Shehbaz and PTI leader Raja Riaz after extensive deliberations. President Arif Alvi approved the nomination after the National Assembly’s dissolution on August 9.
Kakar will officially assume his new role on August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day. Shehbaz highlighted the selection’s constitutionality and recognized his government’s efforts towards economic stabilization over the last 16 months. The general elections are slated for November, slightly beyond the constitutional 90-day period post the assemblies’ dissolution.
