WhatsApp is poised to invigorate its sticker options by introducing animated stickers from user avatars. The chat service, which recently expanded its avatar feature to enable personalized avatars based on user selfies, plans to animate them. Reports from WABetaInfo indicate that this new feature is in the works.
The feature was demonstrated in the beta version of WhatsApp (v2.23.15.6) for Android, where animated avatar stickers brought a dynamic twist to the conversations. WABetaInfo also shared a video showing how these lively stickers can be used. After crafting their avatars in the app, users can find the animated stickers in the stickers section, specifically under the avatar-themed category.
Possible Integration of Meta Avatars and Release Timeline
The smooth functioning of the animated avatar stickers in the app’s beta version suggests that WhatsApp may soon launch this feature in its stable version. However, the exact timeline for the public release remains undisclosed.
This feature update may also set the stage for incorporating Meta Avatars into WhatsApp video calls. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, recently introduced the Meta Avatar feature, which lets users utilize avatars during video calls on Instagram and Messenger. It is yet to be confirmed when this feature will be available on WhatsApp.
