Ammad Shakeel Butt‘s allegations about the Australia tour have raised serious concerns about the treatment of Pakistan’s national hockey team during their recent visit.
Speaking to reporters after landing in Lahore, the Pakistan hockey captain confirmed that reports of mismanagement in Australia were accurate. He said players faced conditions that no professional athlete should endure.
Butt claimed the squad was forced to perform menial tasks. According to him, players cleaned kitchens, washed dishes, scrubbed washrooms, and did their own laundry before training sessions. He questioned how athletes could perform at their best under such circumstances.
He further alleged that the management imposed strict financial limits. The team, he said, was told to manage three daily meals within a small allowance. As a result, he described the situation as mentally exhausting for the players.

Australia Tour Allegations and PHF Response
The captain also accused the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) of attempting to divide the squad. He claimed officials asked players to choose between supporting the federation or standing with him. However, Butt stated that the entire team stood united.
In addition, he said players were warned not to speak to the media or risk facing a ban. Despite this, he maintained that he was under no pressure and would continue to highlight the issues.
Meanwhile, Noorish Sabah, Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), addressed the controversy at the airport. She confirmed that the PSB had arranged and paid for hotel bookings in Australia, which were later cancelled by the PHF.

Sabah stated that if food and accommodation standards fall short, performance will inevitably suffer. She announced that a detailed inquiry report would be sent to the Prime Minister. Furthermore, she stressed that mistreatment of national athletes would not be tolerated.
Despite the turmoil, Butt expressed confidence in the squad’s potential. He said Pakistan has the ability to compete at the highest level, including the World Cup and Olympics. However, he urged authorities to appoint a foreign coach to help improve the team’s direction.
