An American woman, Onijah Andrew Robinson, recently created a stir at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi after she refused to board her flight back to the United States.
Robinson, who had come to Karachi to meet Nidal Memon, a 19-year-old resident she connected with on social media, was left heartbroken when his family objected to their marriage.
Geo News shared that Robinson’s journey began on October 11 and was unexpectedly extended when she decided to stay beyond her visa’s expiration after her relationship ended. Ultimately, an NGO intervened, offering her financial support and a ticket back home.
Despite these arrangements, Robinson resisted leaving Pakistan. Her reluctance caused a 36-minute delay to Qatar Airways flight QR 611, bound for New York via Doha. Initially, she avoided immigration checks and refused to board the aircraft. Security personnel, including the Airport Security Force (ASF), could not persuade her to board, adhering to protocols that prevent forcibly removing passengers.
Robinson faced several challenges during her extended stay in Karachi, resulting in her being taken into custody by airport police when her visa expired. Before her scheduled flight, she also required medical attention for flu and cold symptoms at the airport’s emergency clinic.
This incident at the airport highlights the complex issues of international relationships gone awry and the difficulties of dealing with visa overstay situations in foreign countries.
