Alibaba has launched its Quark artificial intelligence glasses in China, marking a significant move into the competitive AI wearables market. Priced from 1,899 yuan ($268), the glasses use Alibaba’s Qwen AI model and feature a discreet design resembling regular eyewear.
Unlike bulkier headsets from competitors like Meta, the Quark glasses feature a conventional black plastic frame. This design choice emphasizes everyday wearability while incorporating advanced AI capabilities.
The glasses integrate deeply with Alibaba’s ecosystem, including Alipay and Taobao. Users can perform tasks like real-time translation and instant price recognition directly through the eyewear.

Beijing-based electronics analyst Li Chengdong describes the product as a “life assistant” that leverages Alibaba’s strengths in shopping, payments, and navigation. The launch represents Alibaba’s push to capture next-generation traffic gateways amid intense e-commerce competition.
“Alibaba is not a monopoly in e-commerce,” Li noted. “It hopes AI can help it secure the next-generation traffic gateway.”

The Quark glasses enter a rapidly expanding market for AI-powered wearables. Meta currently dominates the VR headset industry with approximately 80% market share, while Apple sells its Vision Pro headset and Samsung released its Galaxy XR headset in October.
Other Chinese competitors include Xiaomi, which launched a similar product in June, and Baidu, which already markets AI-powered glasses. Alibaba’s Quark glasses are now available on major Chinese e-commerce platforms including Tmall, JD.com, and Douyin.
