Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Ali Muhammad Khan denounced a late-night police raid at Parliament House as an ‘assault on democracy.’
During a session chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Khan stated, “Is an attack on Parliament not an attack on Pakistan itself?”

He voiced his dismay about the incident, noting, “We have seen arrests in democracy, but last night’s event, where masked men entered Parliament to arrest members, is beyond acceptable.”
Other members, including Sahibzada Hamid Raza, shared his view, calling the event “the darkest day for Parliament.” He detailed how masked individuals searched rooms from the ground floor up to the fourth floor, labelling the treatment of elected officials as intolerable. Raza, who leads the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), was arrested later.
The raid intensified the situation, drawing criticism from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members.
There are widespread calls for a comprehensive investigation into the raid and the circumstances leading to the arrests of PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar and Sher Afzal Marwat.
A significant police assembly was outside Parliament, and as PTI leaders left the building, officers quickly detained Marwat. A scuffle ensued between Marwat’s supporters and the police, but officers managed to arrest him and seize his vehicle.
