Robots with artificial intelligence (AI) systems have begun surpassing humans, as evidenced by a Guinness World Record secured by an intelligent machine in Japan for solving a Rubik’s Cube.
The TOKUI Fast Accurate Synchronized Motion Testing Robot broke the previous record by solving the puzzle in 0.305 seconds.
The previous record, held by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology robot, was 0.38 seconds, set in 2018.
This speed is significantly faster than the human record of 3.13 seconds set by Max Park in 2023.
Tokui, the project’s leading engineer, told Guinness, “I checked the videos of the previous record holder and felt that our motor was superior. So I was confident we could beat them with speed.”
Initially, the Tokui robot was designed for an electronics manufacturer to handle motor-related products.
The robot was trained and eventually secured the record in late May, using Mitsubishi’s AI-driven color-recognizing algorithm.
Tokui expressed optimism, saying, “I know our products can improve the world. I hope the record will showcase our products’ capabilities to people everywhere.”
