On July 18, 2025, Adobe launched major upgrades to its Firefly Video model, incorporating advanced features that enhance motion generation and creative controls.

The California-based software giant has also integrated third-party AI models into its platform, broadening the options available to users. During a post-results call, Co-CEO Ted Sarandos emphasised that these tools are intended to empower creators: “We remain convinced that AI represents an incredible opportunity to help creators make films and series better, not just cheaper.” The enhancements include smoother transitions, video reference tools, and sound effects generation, all designed to streamline production workflows.

Adobe’s Firefly Video model now produces more natural motion and smoother transitions for both 2D and 3D content. This upgrade enhances elements such as character movements, floating bubbles, rustling leaves, and drifting clouds, making the outputs more realistic. Sarandos noted benefits in pre-visualisation, shot planning, and visual effects, allowing smaller productions to access high-end tools previously limited to big budgets.

New Video Controls and Tools

The update introduces several user-friendly features:

  • Video Reference Upload: Users upload a video as a reference, and Firefly matches its composition in generated outputs.
  • Style Preset Tool: Select styles such as claymation, anime, or line art, along with prompts, for consistent results.
  • Keyframe Cropping: Input the first and last frames to generate videos in a matching format and aspect ratio.
  • Generate Sound Effects (Beta): Create custom audio via text or voice prompts, with voice dictation controlling timing and intensity.

These tools reduce prompting frustration and minimise inline edits, fostering creativity.

Integration of Third-Party AI Models

Adobe added four new models to Firefly Boards:

  • Topaz Labs’ Image and Video Upscalers
  • Moonvalley’s Marey
  • Luma AI’s Ray 2 (soon video-enabled)
  • Pika 2.2 (soon video-enabled)

These capabilities expand to include upscaling, generation, and editing, initially available to paid subscribers via the web app.

Adobe reported $11.08 billion in revenue for Q2 2025, representing a 16% increase year-over-year. The company also recorded a profit of $3.13 billion. In the first half of 2025, users watched over 95 billion hours of content, with non-English titles accounting for one-third of that total.
