On the occasion of Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video on the social networking website ‘X’ featuring historical and significant events related to Cricket from 1952 to the present day in the form of videos and images.
When the Pakistan Cricket Board shared this video on social media on August 14th, it faced strong backlash due to the absence of Imran Khan, who captained Pakistan to its only Cricket World Cup victory in 1992.
The video shared by PCB begins with a quote from Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The video later showcases memorable moments of the Pakistani cricket team from the years 1952 and 1958.
This PCB video mentions notable events like Javed Miandad’s historic six in Sharjah in 1986, the World Cup in 1992, Asia Cup victories in 2000 and 2012, the T20 World Cup win in 2009, and the achievements of the current captain Babar Azam. However, there is no mention of Imran Khan, the captain of the 1992 World Cup-winning team.
The video features nine images of the 1992 World Cup, showing Pakistani team members celebrating and holding the trophy. Almost all players from the 1992 team can be seen in these images, except for Imran Khan, whose presence is nowhere.
However, this video’s thumbnail includes a photo of Imran Khan holding the 1992 World Cup trophy alongside other players.
The absence of Imran Khan in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s video disappointed several Pakistani cricket fans, which they expressed on social media.
The PCB Chairman Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, and the PCB Media Department for their stance on this issue but received no response.
