The first of the nine ships, carrying 50,000 metric tons of wheat from Russia to Pakistan, reached the Gwadar port, Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Chairman Pasand Khan Buledi confirmed on Thursday.
Buledi said arrangements had already been made under an agreement between the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and the Gwadar International Terminal Limited (GITL) to handle the wheat import.
Pakistan will import 450,000 metric tons of wheat, which will be transported by nine ships. “The first ship, MV Leela Chennai, has reached Gwadar port carrying 50,000 metric tons of wheat,” he said.
Buledi emphasized that the agreement to import such a large volume of wheat was a remarkable development towards improving the natural capacity of Gwadar port as a logistics hub in the area. (APP)
