Nawaz Requires Continuous Monitoring Due to Lingering Cardiac Symptoms

A new medical report concerning former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was presented to the Lahore High Court (LHC). Sharif, who intends to return to Pakistan on October 21, departed for London in 2019 on health grounds.

The LHC had previously granted the former premier a temporary leave to go overseas for four weeks, with the possibility of an extension contingent on medical evaluations.

The assessment reveals that Sharif has been experiencing “residual anginal symptoms”, necessitating ongoing medical examinations in London and his home country.

The report carries the signature of Professor Carlo Di Mario, a reputed cardiologist affiliated with the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, which fall under the umbrella of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ National Health Service Foundation Trust.

Elaborating on Sharif’s condition, the cardiologist mentioned that initial attempts were made to manage the symptoms with medication, bolstering his antianginal therapy. However, due to exacerbating symptoms, another angioplasty was executed in November 2022, focusing on a blocked left circumflex artery. Despite this, Sharif’s anginal symptoms persist, emphasizing the need for regular oversight.

Former Premier’s Legal Tangles and Return Plans

Nawaz Sharif, entangled in many cases, including those related to the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Avenfield, Al-Azizia, Hill Metal, and the Flagship references, had left Pakistan in December 2019. The LHC sanctioned the departure, allowing him a four-week medical reprieve overseas.

Reliable sources have indicated that Sharif has plans to return to his homeland on October 21. His itinerary includes a brief Abu Dhabi International Airport stopover before proceeding to Lahore on the same day.
