ETPB Seals Lal Haveli Residence of Sheikh Rashid Amid Controversy

The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) sealed the Lal Haveli residence of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in Rawalpindi, alleging the documents he provided were invalid. The operation, overseen by ETPB, involved the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and a significant police presence.

Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, Rashid’s nephew, countered the claim, stating the property was registered in 1988 under Sheikh Siddique and that all pertinent records were with the deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi. Shafiq revealed their intention to challenge the ETPB’s decision in court.

The ETPB has since taken over the property, deploying its security personnel. This isn’t the first instance of the property being sealed; it was briefly sealed and re-opened earlier this year on Lahore High Court’s directive.

The sealing follows Rashid’s arrest, as informed by his lawyer. Rashid, an ally of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, was reportedly detained in Rawalpindi by unidentified individuals. The circumstances and reasons behind his arrest remain unclear, with his legal counsel asserting no case against him within Punjab’s jurisdiction.
