A power breakdown hit more than half the city of Karachi early morning today after light showers were reported in different parts of the metropolis.
The fault occurred at 7.05 am due to tripping in an extra high tension transmission line, K-Electric (KE) sources admitted that about 65 percent of the city was affected by the breakdown.
Clifton, Defence Housing Authority, Saddar, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Nazimabad and North Nazimabad are among the worst affected areas.
“A team is working on the fault and the issue will be resolved in a timely manner,” KE sources insisted, but were unable to stipulate when power would be restored to the affected areas. Apparently the light drizzle that graced the city was enough to knock most of it off the power grid.
Karachi residents took to social media to enquire about the breakdown, with some claiming that parts of Gulshan, Gulistan-i-Johar, Bahadurabad, KDA, FB Area were among those affected.
Nearly three hours after the breakdown, social media users reported power had been restored to certain parts of DHA, KDA, Gulistan-i-Johar and Saddar.
A major power breakdown in Karachi earlier this year was attributed to high levels of humidity which caused power transmission lines near Jamshoro to trip, triggering a failure in the KE grid.
