James Bond fans will need a little more patience. IO Interactive has officially delayed the release of 007 First Light to May 27, 2026.
The game was originally set to launch on March 27, 2026. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed the delay in a social media update.
Abrak explained that the game is already playable from start to finish. However, the development team needs two additional months to polish gameplay, refine systems, and meet the studio’s quality standards. He emphasised that the decision was made with fans in mind and that the extra time would enhance the final experience.
The studio also promised to share more updates in early 2026 as development enters its final phase.

007 First Light explores the origins of a young James Bond. Players follow a rookie agent as he works toward earning the iconic “00” status and licence to kill. The story focuses on Bond’s early career rather than an established superspy.
Irish actor Patrick Gibson voices the younger Bond. Music icon Lenny Kravitz plays the main antagonist, a mysterious character named Bawma. Familiar figures such as Q and M also appear, alongside several new characters created for this title.
IO Interactive has clarified that the gameplay will not mirror its Hitman series. Instead, the studio aims to blend cinematic action with classic espionage mechanics that reflect the Bond universe.
The new May 2026 launch places 007 First Light alongside other spring releases and creates a wider gap before the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI, now scheduled for November 19, 2026.
For now, IO Interactive says the delay is about one thing: delivering a James Bond game that lives up to the legacy of 007.
