Islamabad: Raja Salman Aziz, an al Qaeda militant wanted in various terrorist activities, was killed in a recent missile strike in North Waziristan, security officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to reports, Salman Aziz, a resident of Islamabad, was involved in several high-profile cases, including 2011 murder of former minister Shahbaz Bhatti and twin suicide blasts in Rawalpindi’s Parade Lane and Melody Market in 2009.
Sources said the militant’s mother is a local office-bearer of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Salman Aziz’s name surfaced during the investigation of Parade Lane attack. He, however, managed to escape to Waziristan before a raid of security agencies.
Officials now believe the terrorist has been killed in a missile strike carried out late on 10 April. His fellow terrorists took away the dead body with them, officials added.
