Vote count is currently under way in Gilgit Baltistan after a daylong peaceful polling process

The polling in all seven districts of the mountainous region continued till 5pm without any break.

Gilgit Baltistan administration declared a public holidays to facilitate the voters to vote.

With 268 contestants in the fray for 24 Legislative Assembly seats, very tough competition is expected between candidates of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) set up over 1100 polling stations – 282 of them declared ‘very sensitive’ – where more than 615,000 registered voters will cast their votes.

Army personnel have been called to perform security duties during the elections.

There have been no reports of any untowards incidents during the election process in GB.
