The rupee managed to appreciate marginally against the dollar last week, as the reserve currency was said to be in ample supply in both the interbank and open markets.
Nonetheless, on the interbank market, the rupee had commenced the week by losing five paisas for buying and four paisas for selling, as the greenback ended the day at Rs101.79 and Rs101.80 against the prior week’s close of Rs101.74 and Rs101.76.
In the second trading session, the rupee inched up by one-paisa for buying and stayed unchanged for selling, as the dollar ended the day at Rs101.78 and Rs101.80. It then pick up four paisas for buying and three paisas for selling in the third trading session, as the dollar slipped to Rs101.75 and Rs101.76.
The rupee then gained two paisas the next day, as the dollar dipped to Rs101.73 and Rs101.74 in the fourth trading session.

The rupee rose by another two paisas for buying and three paisas for selling in the last trading session, as the dollar closed the week at Rs101.70 and Rs101.71. During the week, the dollar depreciated by four paisas for buying and five paisas for selling in the interbank market.
In the open market, the rupee rose by 15 paisas in the first trading session, sending the greenback down at Rs102.75 and Rs102.95, against the prior week’s close of Rs102.90 and Rs103.10.
It picked up another 10 paisas in the second trading session, as the dollar dropped to Rs102.65 and Rs102.85. The rupee gained a further five paisas in the third trading session, as the dollar slipped to Rs102.60 and Rs102.80, reportedly owing to selling by banks and exporters.
But the greenback rebounded in the fourth trading session, rising by 20 paisas and ending the day at Rs102.80 and Rs103.00. The rupee-dollar parity then remained unchanged at this level in the last trading session. During the week, the rupee appreciated by 10 paisas in the open market.
Meanwhile, the rupee failed to capitalise on the euro’s weakening trend against major currencies, despite remaining strong in the first half of the week. It had started the week by gaining 75 paisas, as the euro dropped to Rs112.75 and Rs113.75, against the previous week’s close of Rs113.50 and Rs114.50.
The rupee rose by another 75 paisas in the second trading session, sending the euro down to Rs112.00 and Rs113.00. However, the local currency shed 30 paisas in the third trading session, as the euro rose to Rs112.30 and Rs113.30.
The single currency then rose by a further 45 paisas in the fourth trading session and ended the day at Rs112.75 and Rs113.75. The rupee then suffered a big loss of 135 paisas in the last trading session, as the euro closed the week up at Rs114.10 and Rs115.10.
During the week, the single currency euro appreciated by 60 paisas against the rupee.
