Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday congratulated Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

He expressed the hope that Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman during his tenure of government would play an effective role in the uplift of
people and development of the area on priority basis so that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) could be able to fulfil its promises in line with its manifesto.

The prime minister called Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman and felicitated him on his unopposed election as the GB chief minister.

During the telephonic conversation, the Prime Minister said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan by voting the PML-N to victory had posed their full confidence in its policies, for which they were thankful to the GB people.

He expressed the hope that Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman would leave no stone unturned in serving the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Prime Minister said that he wanted to see Gilgit-Baltistan as a developed and prosperous area.

He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would help bring economic revolution in the area, create ample job opportunities and bring about positive change in the lives of people.

“This is my dream as well as the PML-N’s manifesto and to realize this dream into reality, we will work day and night and serve the people of Gilgit-Baltistan,” he maintained.

GB Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman thanked the Prime Minister for reposing confidence and nominating him for the post of CM and assured him that he would work day and night to make Gilgit-Baltistan a modern and developed area as per his vision and actions would be taken to address the people’s sense of deprivation.

Earlier in the day, the PML-N nominated its GB President and newly elected member of GB Legislative Assembly (GBLA) Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman for the post of CM.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who is also the President of PML-N, was scheduled to visit Gilgit on Friday to attend the oath-taking of new CM GB, but his visit was cancelled due to bad weather.

According to PML-N sources, the new GB cabinet would be announced in a few days.

The Prime Minister also felicitated Haji Fida Muhammad Nashad and Jaffarullah Khan on their unopposed election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of GBLA, respectively. (APP)
