Pervaiz Rashid, the federal information minister, said on Thursday that no television channel should go off-air as the right of expression has to be ensured in a democratic dispensation.
He was talking to the media after a meeting with senior anchor Hamid Mir who was injured in a gun attack in Karachi last month.
Responding to a question about a proposed ban on Geo channels, Rashid said: “The issue is not of Geo, it is about freedom of expression in a democratic society.”
“We have bigger issues in our country and all have to find a solution together.”
He said that if someone has realized their mistake and offered an apology then it should be accepted. He further urging the media to bring an end to infighting, asserting that if one media group falls, it will affect the entire media industry of Pakistan.
