It is believed that they took the drastic step because their families were vehemently opposed to their decision to get married. However, the girl’s family has denied that Muniza Bibi and Bilal were in love with each other.
Locals said, the deceased were in love with each other but Bilal’s parents got him engaged to his cousin from the same village. They said Muniza Bibi visited Bilal’s house on Friday and tried to persuade his parents to let them tie the knot. However, they refused to accept the marriage. Subsequently, the purported couple consumed poisonous tea and died. Bilal’s parents shifted their bodies to Benazir Shaheed Hospital.
Police cited doctors as saying the deceased had consumed a heavy dose of poison and died before they could receive medical attention.
“Samples from their stomach would be sent to a laboratory in Peshawar for chemical analysis,” a police official said.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family claimed Muniza Bibi went to Bilal’s house to meet their paternal grandfather where she consumed poisonous tea. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
