The government authorised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to detain the suspects under custody for as long as 90 days.
The decision has been taken while amending the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) 2014 on Saturday. However it will be mandatory for the FIA officials to produce the suspects before a court prior to detaining them.
Prior to this, Pakistan Rangers, Frontier Corps and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) were given the power to detain a suspect for 90 days.
