Mardan: A powerful bomb struck the office of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in Mardan on Tuesday, killing at least 12 people, police and rescue workers said.

Dr Haris, district emergency officer in Mardan, confirmed that at least 12 bodies had been received by Rescue 1122 workers. He said that 32 people were also injured in the blast, with at least 10 of them in critical condition.

Dr Haris said all injured had been taken to the Mardan Medical Complex and the Mardan District Hospital.

“The suicide attacker riding a motorcycle detonated his explosives outside the gate of the NADRA office, killing 12 people. We have reports of around 30 people being injured,” District Police Officer (DPO) Faisal Shahzad said.

A large number of people were present at the NADRA office at the time of the blast, he said.

Another senior police official, RPO Mardan Syed Wazir, said that the security guard at the office gate died on the spot. Wazir confirmed that the blast was a suicide bombing.

Security personnel had cordoned off the location after the explosion and were carrying out further investigation.
