Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg commended former president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump following an assassination attempt.
NBC News quoted Zuckerberg’s reaction to Trump’s defiant gesture of a raised fist after narrowly escaping a bullet during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Zuckerberg described it as “one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen.”
Zuckerberg expressed a deep emotional response to Trump’s resilience, stating, “As an American, it’s hard not to feel moved by that spirit and fight. That’s a big reason many people admire him.”
Previously, in a Bloomberg interview, Zuckerberg declared his intention to remain neutral in the upcoming November election.
Both Trump and President Joe Biden have previously criticized Zuckerberg. Trump once claimed he wouldn’t ban TikTok to avoid benefiting Zuckerberg’s platforms, and he recently threatened to imprison Zuckerberg if reelected via a post on Truth Social.
Historically, Zuckerberg supported Republicans by hosting a fundraiser for Chris Christie in 2013. However, in 2020, he shifted, donating $350 million to local election offices, which led to accusations from the Republican Party of bias towards Biden.
President Biden expressed scepticism about Zuckerberg during his 2020 campaign, telling the New York Times, “I’ve never been a big Zuckerberg fan. I think he’s a real problem.”
