The government said yesterday that it had achieved the target of ‘zero load-shedding’ of electricity for all industries throughout the country.
A statement issued by the prime minister’s office on behalf of the water and power ministry said that all distribution companies had confirmed that the “decision of zero load-shedding for all industries throughout the country was being implemented.”
As a result, the electricity demand had increased by about 900-1,000MW in the national grid. Shortfall in the domestic sector, however, still hovers at 2,100MW in view of government strategy not to utilise expensive power plants in winter to contain electricity tariff so as to absorb the impact of recent over-billing.
The statement said the power ministry was in constant touch with all the distribution companies for ensuring the implementation of the decision in true spirit and obtaining regular compliance reports.
