The Government of Pakistan has officially launched the Zarkhez mobile application. This new digital platform is designed to provide farmers with easy access to agricultural loans and essential inputs through a simplified, remote process.
The app’s primary function is to facilitate agricultural loans of up to Rs 1 million. Farmers can now submit loan requests directly from home, eliminating the need to visit bank offices.
Beyond financing, the platform integrates several critical services. Users can purchase fertilisers, seeds, and agricultural medicines from authorised bank centres. Additionally, the app provides access to diesel for agricultural machinery.
The initiative also includes an advisory component. Farmers will receive guidance on optimal crop selection, water availability, and fertiliser use, helping improve yields and resource management.
This federal launch coincides with provincial support measures. Earlier, the Punjab agriculture department announced a special package for kinnow and potato cultivators. Officials credit this initiative to ongoing coordination between the provincial and federal governments.
A formal notification has been issued for the package. Its goals are to reduce production costs, support farmers during peak harvest, and strengthen Pakistan’s regional agricultural exports.
The announcement notes a significant increase in exports of kinnow and potatoes to Asian markets. This growth is facilitated by Iran’s transit route, which offers lower transport costs and reduced delivery times. Consequently, this corridor is playing a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural economy and improving market access for its produce.
