Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the newly-formed PCB management committee, has extended various roles to former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez.
The meeting between Hafeez and Ashraf occurred at the PCB headquarters in Lahore. Hafeez congratulated Ashraf on assuming the role of PCB head once again. During their conversation, Ashraf proposed two significant positions to Hafeez: the role of Pakistan’s chief selector or a prominent position in the National Cricket Academy.
Hafeez’s Gratitude and Request for Time
Expressing his gratitude, Hafeez thanked Ashraf and conveyed his eagerness to contribute to the improvement of Pakistan cricket. However, he requested time to consult with his family and friends before deciding on the roles offered.
Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Hafeez emphasized his commitment to bringing reforms to the PCB if given the opportunity. He said it would be an honour to serve Pakistan cricket, but he expects respect, dignity, and full authority.
Hafeez clarified that his motivation is not driven by financial gain but by a genuine ambition to elevate Pakistan cricket to new heights. He also admired Ashraf as a respected administrator and appreciated the offers extended to him during their meeting.
The recent changes in the PCB management committee resulted in Najam Sethi’s departure and Zaka Ashraf’s appointment as the new chairman. Consequently, the position of Chief Selector, previously held by Haroon Rashid, is now vacant, and a new appointment will be made in due course.

Moreover, reports have suggested that other prominent figures in Pakistani cricket, including former captain Younis Khan, Mohsin Hassan Khan, and Saleem Yousaf, are also being considered for roles within the new setup. Notably, although Shoaib Akhtar’s name was discussed, Zaka Ashraf ultimately decided not to offer him a role in the PCB.
