Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad has officially been appointed as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) following the dissolution of the regional assembly, marking the beginning of a new interim administrative setup.
According to a notification issued by the Gilgit-Baltistan Council Secretariat, the appointment was made under Article 148-A after detailed consultations between the Leader of the Opposition and the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Amir Muqam.
The Chairman of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council finalised the appointment following the completion of the assembly’s five-year tenure. Subsequently, a notification for the assembly’s dissolution was also released, and all ministers, advisers, and coordinators have been notified under Article 56(5) of the Governance Reforms 2019.

The decision paves the way for the formation of the caretaker government, which will oversee the region’s administrative functions until new elections are held.
