Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi has called a full court meeting of the Supreme Court for September 8, 2025, to review the Supreme Court Rules 2025.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president has already submitted written recommendations. These include a demand to reverse recent court fee increases. So far, no judges have formally proposed changes, though some have raised concerns about the approval process.
The Supreme Court Rules 2025 were passed earlier by a majority vote through circulation rather than during a full court meeting. This prompted dissent from several judges, who argued that the rules should have been debated in open session.

Sources report that, even after 15 days, no formal suggestions for revisions have been received. The meeting will now take up the SCBA’s proposals and attempt to settle these disputes.
Ahead of the meeting, the Court will also mark the start of the new judicial year with a formal ceremony. A new facilitation centre for litigants will be launched at the same time. This step follows recent reforms, including the expansion of state-funded legal aid for low-income citizens.

The full court session is seen as a key step toward transparency and improved rule-making. Its outcome could significantly affect court operations and help rebuild public trust in Pakistan’s judiciary.
