Barcelona has confirmed that Xavi Hernandez will no longer serve as head coach, with Hansi Flick set to replace him.
The club has decided to terminate Xavi’s contract with just one game this season and has already secured Hansi Flick as his successor.
Reaching a severance agreement with Xavi was challenging, but it was finalized before Barcelona’s upcoming match against Sevilla.
Flick is anticipating a formal call from Barcelona to confirm his appointment. Recent discussions between Flick and the club have confirmed a mutual agreement on contract terms.
Barcelona’s president, Laporta, has long favoured German managerial styles. He has considered several German coaches, including Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel, Flick, and Jurgen Klopp. Ultimately, economic factors had initially led him to choose Xavi.
Xavi’s exit is imminent. His dismissal is expected to cost around 20 million euros, covering his and his staff’s severance.
Xavi continues to lead training and is likely experiencing his final days as Barcelona’s coach. He is scheduled for a pre-match press conference on Saturday at 13:00 CEST.
In his farewell message, Xavi expressed his pride and sorrow in departing from the club that has been like a second family. His departure marks the end of his tenure on Barcelona’s bench after two and a half years.
