The Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi will inaugurate the World Culture Festival starting today, Thursday, and running through October 30. The Council’s President, Ahmed Shah, announced the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
This year’s festival will showcase an expansive array of cultural offerings, with over 450 artists from 40 countries participating. Attendees can look forward to more than 100 cultural pieces spanning various art forms. The represented countries include Palestine, the UAE, India, Germany, South Korea, Bangladesh, Rwanda, and Switzerland.
The festival will feature a rich program of events, including 40 theatrical acts, 55 musical performances, and 50 dance recitals. Additionally, there will be 20 workshops, 10 talks, and five fine art exhibitions, all highlighting the diversity and vibrancy of global cultures. These activities aim to provide a platform for international artists to display their talent and for attendees to engage deeply with the arts.
Shah emphasized the region’s cultural heritage: “We want the world to know that we are the custodians of three civilizations: Harappa, Taxila, and Mohenjo-Daro.”
Noted writer Anwar Maqsood commented on Pakistan’s unique cultural dynamics: “We all know what’s happening in Islamabad, Punjab, and Balochistan; Sindh is the only province where a culture festival is being organized.”
Provincial Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah highlighted the collaborative efforts between the government of Sindh and the Arts Council, which have been pivotal in bringing this festival to fruition. He expressed optimism that the festival would project a positive image of Pakistan internationally.
