Rapper Fetty Wap has returned home after an early release from federal prison, marking a major moment in a legal case that began several years ago.

Authorities released the rapper on January 8, 2026, after he served more than three years of a six-year sentence. Family and close friends welcomed him back with emotional support.

Why did Fetty Wap go to jail?

Federal prosecutors arrested Fetty Wap in 2022 following a long-running investigation into a large-scale drug trafficking operation.

He later pleaded guilty to charges related to the distribution of illegal substances, including fentanyl. The case also involved firearm possession connected to drug trafficking activities. In 2023, the court sentenced him to six years in federal prison.

Convicted in 2022 on drug-trafficking charges, the ‘Trap Queen’ rapper is now on home confinement with regular testing and limits on financial activity. https://t.co/06nKArW2Hz

Why was Fetty Wap Released Early?

Prison officials approved his early release based on time served and good-conduct credits. These factors reduced his original sentence and allowed his return ahead of schedule.

Upon release, Fetty Wap reunited with loved ones outside the facility. Supporters described the moment as emotional and positive. Fans also reacted online, sharing messages of encouragement and hope for his future.

Fetty Wap’s Release Date Confirmed

Fetty Wap officially left federal custody on January 8, 2026. He completed just over half of his sentence before earning early release.

Fetty Wap rose to fame in 2015 with his breakout hit Trap Queen, which topped charts worldwide. The success launched a string of popular singles and collaborations.

His melodic sound and distinctive voice quickly made him a standout figure in hip-hop. However, legal issues later disrupted his momentum and shifted public focus away from music.

For now, the rapper plans to focus on family and stability. People close to him say he wants time to adjust before making professional decisions. His release marks a turning point after years of legal challenges. Many fans see it as a chance for a fresh start.

As Fetty Wap rebuilds his life, attention will turn to whether he returns to music or takes a quieter path forward.
