Wheat prices have risen sharply across Punjab and Islamabad over the past ten days, climbing from Rs3,700 to Rs4,400 per maund, according to market sources cited by ARY News on Friday.
In Lahore, traders reported shortages of government-supplied 10kg and 20kg flour bags in several areas. The price of a 15kg flour bag has increased from Rs1,500 to Rs1,750, adding pressure on household budgets. Wheat rates in the city have now reached Rs4,450 per maund.
Prices have climbed even higher in other parts of Punjab. Wheat is being sold at up to Rs4,500 per maund in Gujranwala and Gujrat, while rates in Rawalpindi have touched Rs4,800 per maund, the highest reported so far.

In southern Punjab, wheat prices have reached Rs4,450 per maund in Multan, while Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan are at around Rs4,400 per maund.
Meanwhile, wheat prices in Islamabad have also risen to Rs4,400 per maund, reflecting the broader supply crunch affecting the region.
Commenting on the situation, Asim Raza, Central Chairman of the Flour Mills Association, said the sharp increase is being driven by a growing shortage of wheat.
He warned that wheat stocks are depleting rapidly and that higher wheat costs are directly pushing flour prices higher, raising concerns about further price hikes if supplies do not improve soon.
