Wheat prices have risen sharply across Punjab, including Lahore, with rates increasing by around Rs700 per maund over the past ten days, according to market sources.
During this period, the price of wheat climbed from Rs3,700 to Rs4,400 per maund in most parts of the province. In Rawalpindi, prices reached as high as Rs4,800 per maund, reflecting tightening supply conditions.
In Lahore, wheat is now selling at around Rs4,450 per maund. Residents in several parts of the city also reported shortages of government-supplied 10-kg and 20-kg flour bags. A 15-kg flour bag, which earlier sold for Rs1,500, is now priced at about Rs1,750, putting additional pressure on household budgets.
Other major cities have reported similar trends. In Gujranwala and Gujrat, wheat is selling at around Rs4,500 per maund. Prices in Multan are near Rs4,450, while Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan have reported rates of around Rs4,400 per maund.
In Islamabad, wheat prices have also climbed to around Rs4,400 per maund, in line with increases seen across Punjab.
Central Chairman of the Flour Mills Association, Asim Raza, said wheat shortages have pushed prices higher. He explained that rising wheat costs have directly driven higher flour prices, warning that rates may remain elevated if supply pressures persist.
