Meta’s popular messaging application, WhatsApp, recently introduced new updates for its Android users. These features, designed to enhance the user experience, include a revamped layout, new status update tools, and GIF functionality improvements.
Revamped Layout on WhatsApp
WhatsApp has updated the main page’s layout, making the Chats, Calls, Communities, and Status tabs more accessible. Now located at the bottom of the page, these tabs allow users to navigate to their desired sections quickly.
This user-friendly interface has been a staple for iOS users, and with this update, Android beta users can now enjoy the same seamless experience.
Introduction of Chat Lock Feature
WhatsApp’s update includes the Chat Lock feature for Android users to enhance user privacy. This allows users to secure their highly personal chats with a fingerprint lock. Once enabled, locked chats will not appear on the app’s main dashboard.
To activate this feature, users simply navigate to a contact’s profile, scroll down, and tap ‘Chat Lock.’
Enhancements to Disappearing Messages Feature
Another significant update involves the Disappearing Messages feature. Android users can now save important messages later while utilizing this feature. To do this, users press on a message and select ‘keep.’ The chosen messages will be saved permanently, while the remainder of the chat will be deleted after a predetermined period.
Upgraded Tools for Status Updates
WhatsApp has also revamped the text overlay tools for Status updates, offering updated fonts and background colors for a more personalized experience.
GIFs Playback Improvement
Finally, the update brings an improvement to the way GIFs are viewed within chats. Users no longer need to tap on GIFs to play them; they will automatically play upon receipt. While a minor update, this enhancement simplifies the user experience.
It’s worth noting that while all these features are currently being rolled out, the process is gradual. Therefore, it may take some time before all Android WhatsApp users can access them.
