WhatsApp introduced a new typing indicators feature on Thursday to enhance real-time chat engagement. The update includes visual cues at the bottom of the chat screen, making it easier for users to know when others are actively typing in one-to-one and group conversations.
According to a press release by the Meta-owned platform, the feature uses “…” visual cues, accompanied by the profile picture of the person typing. This is especially useful in group chats where multiple users may be typing simultaneously. It complements the existing banner-style typing indicator, offering a more immersive experience for users.
The feature, first reported in October, was initially available to select beta testers. As confirmed by Gadgets 360 staff, it is now rolling out globally for iOS and Android devices.
WhatsApp Recent Additions: Voice Message Transcripts
In addition to typing indicators, WhatsApp recently launched a voice message transcription feature. This allows users to receive text-based transcriptions of voice messages, enhancing convenience for those who prefer reading over listening.
The transcription feature is generated on-device, ensuring privacy, as no one else can access the content. Voice messages remain protected by end-to-end encryption. For Android, supported languages include English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. Meanwhile, iOS users gain additional support for languages like Arabic, Chinese, French, and German.
