WhatsApp is reportedly close to launching an improved music-sharing feature for its Status updates.
The new functionality will enable users to share songs from Spotify, providing an experience similar to Instagram Stories. The update aims to enhance how music is showcased on the platform, making it more visually engaging and interactive.
WhatsApp Music Sharing Feature
According to tech insiders WABetaInfo and Android Police, the new feature will include:
- Album Cover Previews: Shared songs will display album art, song titles, and artist names directly on WhatsApp Status.
- Customizable Backgrounds: Users can choose from four background colours sampled from the album art’s dominant hues.
- “Play on Spotify” Button: Viewers will see a “Play on Spotify” option, enabling seamless playback of shared tracks.
Images shared by WABetaInfo reveal that the feature closely mirrors Instagram’s music-sharing tools. This reflects Meta’s broader strategy to integrate music more deeply across its platforms, creating a cohesive user experience.

The update aligns with Meta’s recent efforts to boost user engagement through music, especially as TikTok, the leader in music discovery, faces regulatory challenges in the U.S. Meta has already introduced music-focused tools on Instagram, such as profile songs, “Add Yours” music stickers, Reels lyrics, and music in Notes. Expanding these features to WhatsApp is part of the company’s strategy to stay competitive and relevant.
