WhatsApp has announced various fun new features to elevate the texting and calling experience just in time for the new year. For a limited period, users can enjoy themed calling effects during video calls, along with vibrant animations and sticker packs to get into the festive spirit.
WhatsApp users can make video calls during the holiday season featuring festive backgrounds, filters, and New Year-themed effects. The platform has also introduced new animated reactions; when users react to a message with selected party emojis, a delightful confetti animation activates, enhancing interactions between the sender and recipient.
In addition to these enhancements, WhatsApp has rolled out a specially curated New Year’s Eve (NYE) sticker pack. These include avatar stickers that align with the festive theme, offering users a playful and interactive way to send holiday greetings. This release complements a series of recent updates that have added more variety and fun to the platform’s functionality.

Moreover, the app has enhanced group call functionality, enabling users to select specific participants for calls without interrupting the entire group chat.

Other notable features include new typing indicators showing real-time engagement in chats, complete with visual cues and profile pictures of the users typing, available in one-on-one and group conversations.
Additionally, WhatsApp now offers voice message transcripts, allowing recipients to read text-based transcriptions of voice messages. This feature ensures privacy as transcripts are generated on-device; only the recipient can view them.
