WhatsApp is now extending its chat-specific theming support to Android following its introduction to iOS.
The new WhatsApp update, currently available in the Android beta version, offers enhanced customization options similar to those found in Facebook’s Messenger.
Previously, WhatsApp on Android allowed basic theming, primarily involving background wallpaper changes within chats. The newly spotted interface allows users to apply specific themes to individual chats, enhancing the app’s personalization capabilities.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the beta version features an updated theme selection interface, showcasing 20 chat colours and 22 textured themes. These options enable distinct chat bubble colours for senders and receivers, adding a layer of customization previously unavailable.
For now, these advanced theming capabilities are exclusive to Android beta users. However, since the feature first appeared in iOS beta, it’s likely to be officially released on iOS before Android.
In related news, Google’s upcoming Gemini virtual assistant for Android will support voice-command messaging. This feature builds on the existing capabilities of Google Assistant, which Gemini is set to replace. Like the new theming options in WhatsApp, Gemini’s integration is also in the testing phase.
