Across Pakistan, several housing societies have been found using the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) name without authorization, leading to potential legal action by the agency.
WAPDA has clarified that many cooperative housing societies operate under names that unlawfully incorporate ‘WAPDA,’ prompting the agency to take corrective measures.
In response, WAPDA has declared its intent to initiate legal proceedings against these societies, collaborating with the Federal Investigation Agency and the Registrar of Cooperative Housing Societies to address these infringements. Among the societies identified are those in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Kasur, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi, and Hyderabad.
WAPDA officials have emphasized that no other housing society is legally permitted to use the WAPDA name except the WAPDA Town Cooperative Housing Society in Lahore. They warned that any name misuse is deemed fraudulent and subject to legal consequences.
WAPDA also cautioned investors about the risks of investing in these unauthorized societies, noting that WAPDA will not be responsible for any resulting losses or obligations.
