A Virat Kohli lookalike caused a stir among netizens at a Bangladesh protest, a video of him celebrating the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went viral.
Spotted among enthusiastic protesters, the man resembled the 35-year-old former captain of India’s national cricket team, complete with a Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cap. In the video, he was seen energetically shouting slogans and dancing on the shoulders of a friend as they celebrated Hasina’s departure from Dhaka, as reported by NDTV.
The resemblance to Kohli shocked viewers online. One user on X remarked that, for a moment, he thought the real Kohli was celebrating with the protesters.
This isn’t the first time a Kohli lookalike has captured public attention. In January, another doppelganger in Ayodhya, India, went viral when he was seen wearing the Indian cricket team’s jersey and was mobbed by fans for selfies.
The backdrop to these celebrations is the resignation of Hasina, triggered by initially peaceful student protests against the government’s quota system that escalated into violent clashes with law enforcement, resulting in over 400 deaths.
Protesters stormed Hasina’s residence on Monday, but the former prime minister had already resigned and fled the country on a military plane.
In a significant political shift, Bangladesh’s Nobel-winning microfinance pioneer Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of a military-backed interim government following Hasina’s ouster.
