During the Perth Test commentary on the development of Indian fast bowlers and pitch conditions, Sanjay Manjrekar commented that former Indian bowler Vinay Kumar found disrespectful.
Manjrekar had remarked, “Medium pacers like the Vinay Kumars, with no disrespect to him, were topping the charts because all they needed to do, with grass on the pitch, was put the ball at 120 kmph in the right area, and they got wickets.”
Vinay Kumar responded to these comments on X, as reported by Wisden, “Sanjay bhai, with due respect, your speed gun needs urgent servicing. 120KMPH, seriously? I am content, satisfied, and proud of my achievements with God’s grace.
A medium pacer like myself has worked hard to become the first Indian fast bowler to claim 100 IPL wickets and to represent the country across all formats. I take pride in my bowling. Anyway, best wishes and regards.”
Vinay’s international career includes one Test, 31 ODIs, and nine T20Is, totalling 48 wickets. Domestically, he has a notable record of 504 wickets in 139 first-class matches. His Ranji Trophy career includes 442 wickets, making him the highest wicket-taking pacer in the tournament’s history. In the IPL, he played 105 matches for four teams, taking 105 wickets.
